Product Details

This strange and sensual brooch is by Ana Maria Nunez Brilanti, the artist known to collectors of Mexican silver as Victoria. The abstract design is called "Angel." The back of this piece is signed "Victoria Mexico Taxco Sterling." It is also stamped 53, the number identifying the piece's design, and the Mexican eagle mark indicating sterling silver. Wonderfully constructed in three dimensions, with glossy high points and oxidized low points. This wearable piece will make an exciting addition to any collection of fine Mexican jewelry. Circa 1955.

The Mexican city of Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. Ana Maria Nunez Brilanti was one of Taxco's most important artists. Brilanti was a fascinating woman. As a child in Mexico City, she worked with Diego Rivera on his murals. Eleanor Roosevelt was a customer and a fan of her jewelry. Her work was inspired by pre-Columbian art as well as Modernist design. A chapter is devoted to her in the important reference book Mexican Silver by Morrill and Berk.

Details: The brooch measures 2.66"by 1.45". In Very Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
